How to play Crazy Eights

Each player starts with five cards. Match the top discard’s suit or rank. Any eight is wild; choose which suit play continues with.

  • You may draw only when none of your cards can be played. Draw one card and keep your turn. Play it if it is legal; otherwise draw one card again on your next action.
  • When the draw pile is empty, the discard pile is shuffled back into it, leaving its top card in place.
  • The first player to empty their hand wins the round and earns one point. If nobody can draw or play, the round is blocked.
  • Scores carry over. Everyone must agree to another round before it begins.
  • The host starts after at least two players have joined and everyone is connected.

The host coordinates the table and is trusted with the complete game state. Each player sees only their own hand and public cards. The room is saved in this browser to help reconnect; leaving ends the room for everyone.

How does a turn work?

Play a card that matches the top card’s suit or rank. Eights can be played at any time and let you choose the next suit. You may draw only when none of your cards can be played. Draw one card and keep your turn; play it if it is legal. If you still have no legal play, draw one card again on your next action. When the draw pile is empty, the discard pile is shuffled back into it, leaving its top card in place.

How do we start?

How do we win?

The first player to empty their hand wins the round and earns a point. If no one can draw or play, the round is blocked. Scores carry over, and all players must agree before another round begins.
