Battleship (Sea Battle)

Battleship, also called Sea Battle, is a hidden-fleet game for two online friends. Share an invite link to play for free, with no sign-up. This version has no same-device or computer mode.

Can I arrange my ships?

Your five ships are placed automatically on a 10 by 10 grid: lengths 5, 4, 3, 3 and 2. Ships are straight, do not overlap, and may touch. Keep the layout or choose “Shuffle fleet” for another arrangement, then select “Start battle”. Both players must start before the first shot. Manual placement is not available.

Do I get another shot after a hit?

No. Red fires first, and players take one shot each turn, whether it hits or misses. Choose an untried square in enemy waters. Sink all five enemy ships to win; fleets are then revealed and checked.

Can I undo a shot or play again?

Shots cannot be undone because revealed information cannot be taken back. Resign ends the round without revealing fleets. When both players choose “Play again”, a new round begins with fresh fleets and the first shooter switches by default.

Can I resume a battle?

Progress is saved in this browser. Return here to try to resume after a refresh or disconnect; online recovery needs both players to reconnect. Changing devices or clearing browser data can prevent recovery. Your saved fleet is needed to continue a battle.

How to play

  1. Share an invite with an online friend. Your hidden 10 by 10 fleet has five ships: 5, 4, 3, 3 and 2 squares.
  2. Ships are placed automatically. Keep the arrangement or choose “Shuffle fleet”, then “Start battle”. Both players must start before shots begin. Ships are straight, cannot overlap, and may touch. Manual placement is not available.
  3. Red fires first. Take one shot at a time; hit or miss, the other player fires next. Sink all five ships to win.
  4. On a phone, tap a square to preview and again to fire. Keyboard: Tab into enemy waters, use arrows to choose a square, then Enter or Space.
  5. After all five ships are sunk, fleets are revealed and verified. Resign ends the round without revealing fleets; undo, same-device play and computer play are unavailable in this version.
  6. Progress is saved in this browser. Return here to try to resume after a refresh or disconnect; online recovery needs both players to reconnect. Changing devices or clearing browser data can prevent recovery. Your saved fleet is needed to continue.
  7. Both players choose “Play again” for new fleets; the first shooter switches by default.

Returning to a game

Progress is saved in this browser. For an online game, use the room link in the same browser; both players need to reconnect. Changing browsers, clearing browser data or an expired room can prevent a return. There is no cloud backup of your game.
